                                     ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I acknowledge the histories, contributions and legacies of the African Nova Scotia people and communities who have been here for over 400 years. I acknowledge the appropriation and monetization of wisdom traditions that originated with Black and Brown communities. I continue to engage in the messy work of uncovering these patterns, supporting our staff and community members in anti-racism learning journeys, and uplifting and directing resources to support BIPOC-led initiatives.

I acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which the Mi’kmaq, WÉ™lastÉ™kwiyik, and Peskotomuhkatiyik Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1726. Irespect the Treaties that were made on these territories, I acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and dedicate myself to moving forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration. Acknowledging the land that we are on is one way that we are working towards decolonization across campus.
